Commissioned by King Ferdinand II in 1838 as a summer retreat for the royal family, the palace blends Neo-Gothic, Neo-Manueline, Neo-Islamic and Neo-Renaissance elements into a single, deeply personal composition — a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1995 and one of the New Seven Wonders of Portugal.
Your visit combines the palace interior — preserved much as it was when the royal family departed in 1910 — with the surrounding 200-hectare Pena Park of exotic gardens, hidden fountains and panoramic viewpoints looking over the Atlantic coast.
